The Tofu restaurant is definitely a hidden gem of Ryuan-ji. They serve the authentic Tofu hot pot only but it’s extremely tasteful. The environment is authentic Japanese garden and Tatami. Services are superb. It is a very unique experience and highly recommended!

This is an experience you don't want to miss while in Japan. It's situated inside a temple and you need to buy a ticket to enter the premises. This place serves plant based Japanese cuisine. The tofu hotpot with veggies and rice is very delicious and flavorful. I have not eaten fresher tofu than this before. Two of the tofu hotpot dishes is more than enough for 3 people. Use the soy sauce literally. More than the food the ambience is wonderful. The garden and pond are pure heaven! The tatami mats add to an authentic experience. You will need to take off your shoes and sit down on cushions. Unlimited free green tea! If you just have a beverage or don't order a dish per person there is a 300¥ charge. Payment is only cash and to be made before the meal. Completely recommended, not to be missed!

Surely this is one of the most beautiful places you could eat at! Yudofu was great, but the view that looks out into the garden was even better. So extremely peaceful and quiet, and the restaurant was not so busy so it was so nice to just be able to slow down and soak in the view while eating. A great pit stop while visiting multiple temples. We stopped by after visiting Kinkakuji.

I came here to discover the true essence of tofu. I still don't know what tofu tastes like, but I had a great experience. It was a perfect way to wait for the rain to stop. The setup and views are great, the yodofu portion are generous and the hall is decently heated. They indeed make you pay in cash right when they bring the nabe (not when ordering or when leaving), it feels weird, but they do that to everyone.

Beautiful restaurant with Plant based menu based on tofu. The garden is Beautiful, and the restaurant is with a tatami floor. The best lunch experience in Japan so far.

Do yourself the favor to go to this beautiful place, where you will be entirely at peace in an incredible garden, with super welcoming staff. I’ve never eaten that many tofu and you can taste it in different sauces and with many variations. 100% recommend

One of my favorite restaurants I ate at in Japan! Tatami mat floors, so you take off your shoes before entering and sit on cushions on the ground. Gorgeous restaurant that overlooks the gardens. Entirely plant-based, traditional Buddhist menu. Don’t be shy on the soy sauce for the tofu meal. Staff is kind and helpful at explaining how to eat the different foods. Unlimited green tea.
